About

We sat huddled in our parents’ wood-paneled basements and family rooms, joysticks in hand, dinner growing cold on a far-off table because five more minutes is all we would ever need. We hunched over insatiable arcade machines, pumping quarter after quarter into its metallic maw for just one more try. We spent our formative years enthralled by the cold blue light that shined out of other worlds. Growing up, our bedfellow was Geek.
But now, all of our old friends are either gone or unrecognizable (looking at you, Sonic). You can’t go home again, but we still search for the innocence and wonder that filled us when Mario collected that hundredth coin, when Pac Man gobbled the delicious wandering fruit or when Pitfall Harry made it across those damn alligators. Where we can’t find it, we create it.
With age, our interests grew and we branched off into design, writing, publicity. Any creative outlet we could find, we took it and let our past influence our future. Now, every field is flush with references to video games and we have ourselves to thank.
We here at WhiteSpace Invaders are no different. Raised by two families, one biological one virtual, we now seek the best examples of geekdom in life and art because it’s what we do and who we are.
